Zegjine Çaushi responds to domestic violence allegations involving her uncle

Socialist Deputy Zegjine Çaushi has issued a public statement regarding an alleged incident of violence and domestic abuse involving her maternal uncle, Bledar Bakaj, and 34-year-old Merita Gremaj. The incident, which reportedly took place in the village of Suk 2, also involved the injury of Gremaj’s father.

In her response, Çaushi clarified her knowledge of the relationship between Bakaj and Gremaj. She stated that she encountered the pair by chance in early June, at which time Gremaj introduced herself as Bakaj’s cohabitant. According to Çaushi, the couple indicated they intended to marry despite opposition from Gremaj’s father.

Çaushi emphasized that she does not have continuous contact with her extended family and noted that her interaction with the couple lasted only about ten minutes. She expressed strong condemnation for all forms of violence.
