Zelenskiy announces new sanctions targeting Russian missile and drone supply chains

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has announced that new sanction packages targeting Russia could enter into force as early as October. These measures are designed to increase pressure on Moscow and push it toward genuine diplomacy.

The proposed sanctions specifically target Russia’s financial channels and the supply chains used for the production of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A primary focus will be on the “shadow” supply networks and companies or individuals involved in the manufacturing of ballistic missiles and the provision of components for the Russian military industry.

Zelenskiy highlighted the urgency of these measures following recent escalations, noting that Russia has increased its use of jet-powered Shahed-type drones. He reported that recent Russian attacks have struck civilian infrastructure, including schools, kindergartens, and residential buildings, which he characterized as terrorism. The President called for increased pressure from international partners, specifically urging the G7 and G20 to maintain a principled stance.
