Zelensky says officials responsible for deadly Kyiv‑area weapons depot will be held accountable
A Russian strike on the town of Vyshneve, on Kyiv’s western outskirts, hit a weapons warehouse and triggered secondary explosions that killed 10 people and damaged hundreds of homes. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that officials who authorised the storage of arms and ammunition in a residential area have been identified. He said the investigation by the Ukrainian Security Service found that heads of two state‑owned enterprises within the defence conglomerate Ukroboronprom authorised the depot, violating law and the Supreme Commander‑in‑Chief’s orders. Zelensky stated, “The responsible officials have been identified and must be held accountable,” and pledged criminal responsibility for those involved. The incident raises concerns about civilian protection, weapons‑storage regulations and accountability within Ukraine’s wartime defence sector.
