Ukraine Parliament extends martial law and mobilization until January 2027

The Ukrainian Parliament (Rada Supreme) has voted to extend martial law and general mobilization for an additional 90 days, moving the expiration date from October 31, 2026, to January 29, 2027. The legislation was proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky and received support from 293 deputies for martial law and 281 for general mobilization.

These measures, which have been in place since the Russian invasion in February 2022, grant authorities expanded powers to manage national defense, including restrictions on movement and the ability to recruit reservists. The extension includes continued restrictions on men of military age leaving the country.

To address personnel shortages, the Ukrainian government is considering a new mobilization mechanism. Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky indicated that businesses may be able to defer the conscription of certain employees if the company meets specific military manpower quotas. Additionally, the government plans to tighten penalties for draft evasion.
