Zelensky rejects early elections as Kremlin hints at Putin-Trump meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected calls for early elections, describing the prospect as a potential ‘tsunami’ that could fracture the country during the ongoing war. His comments follow suggestions from former Defense Minister Mykhajlo Fedorov regarding the restoration of democratic processes. Zelensky noted that current martial law prevents elections and emphasized that holding them is impossible while Vladimir Putin shows no willingness to consider a ceasefire.

In military developments, Ukraine is seeking approximately 300 Patriot missile interceptors to bolster air defenses for the winter, a significant challenge given global production constraints. Meanwhile, Russian strikes in the Zaporizhzhia region have resulted in three deaths and twenty injuries, with officials reporting hundreds of drone and artillery attacks against local settlements.

On the diplomatic front, the Kremlin indicated that a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump is ‘inevitable’ should both attend the APEC summit in China this November. Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov stated that while no formal signals exist yet, the leaders would likely speak on the sidelines of the event.
