Zelensky: 700,000 Russian war dead, 50,000 Ukrainian casualties
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Fox News that Russia has suffered roughly 1.6 million total casualties since the invasion began, including about 700,000 deaths. He said Ukraine’s armed forces have lost around 50,000 soldiers, with roughly 400,000 wounded and many missing. Zelensky gave these figures in a July 31 interview after a visit to Washington and noted that earlier in February he had reported 55,000 Ukrainian deaths. He also claimed Russia supplied drones to Iran, linking the Ukraine war to the broader Middle‑East conflict. Independent analysts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimate up to 140,000 Ukrainian and 325,000 Russian fatalities by the end of 2025, while Russia’s defence ministry has not released battlefield loss numbers since September 2022.
