Zelensky reports 700,000 Russian war deaths and 50,000 Ukrainian fatalities

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Fox News that Russia has suffered around 1.6 million total casualties since the full‑scale invasion began, including roughly 700,000 deaths. He said Ukraine’s losses total about 50,000 soldiers killed, 400,000 wounded and a large number missing.

Zelensky gave the figures during a Washington visit on July 31, after meetings on missile‑defence aid. He noted the numbers are not independently verified and that earlier statements were lower. Independent analysts, such as the Center for Strategic and International Studies, estimate far fewer deaths – up to 140,000 Ukrainian and 325,000 Russian troops by the end of 2025. Zelensky also linked the Ukraine war to the United States‑Iran tension, claiming Russian components were found in Iranian drones used against Israel.
