Zelensky says pressure on Moscow could bring peace by autumn
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told a meeting of Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv that he hopes intensified pressure on Russia – through drone attacks, international sanctions and diplomatic efforts – will force Moscow to negotiate an end to the war by the autumn, though he said the exact timing cannot be predicted.
He urged each ambassador to secure weapons from foreign partners and highlighted the joint development of the anti‑missile defence system “Freyja” with European allies. Zelensky accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of delaying the war’s end and preparing a new conscription wave, noting no sign of Kremlin retreat after four and a half years of invasion. Observers expect a fresh mobilisation after Russia’s parliamentary elections in September.
Zelensky also referenced a 40‑day operation by Ukrainian secret services that targeted supply‑chain centres of the Russian e‑commerce company Wildberries, which concluded on Tuesday.
