Zelenskyy secures Patriot licence from Trump as Russia hits Kyiv with ballistic missiles
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that a massive Russian attack was highly likely, urging allies to provide anti‑missile defences. After returning from a meeting in Washington, he said U.S. President Donald Trump had agreed to grant Ukraine licences to produce Patriot interceptor missiles, a step Zelenskyy called a "good meeting."
Shortly after the meeting, Russian forces launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv, causing multiple explosions, fires at non‑residential sites and at least one civilian death. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko instructed residents to seek shelter. The strikes also killed six people, including two children, in the town of Kryvyi Rih. Zelenskyy reiterated the request for 300 Patriot interceptors by winter, citing shortages of PAC‑3 missiles.
The incident follows reports that Russian forces had prepared a large‑scale attack days earlier and that Russia is losing roughly 30,000 soldiers per month, while President Vladimir Putin’s initiative in the war is waning.
