Zelenskyy and NATO leadership call for increased defense support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on European Union member states to increase economic and military support, specifically emphasizing the need for enhanced air and anti-ballistic defense systems. During a meeting with European ambassadors in Kyiv, Zelenskyy discussed immediate financial requirements, the acceleration of Ukraine’s EU accession process, and the intensification of sanctions against Russia.
Separately, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte urged allies to remain calm in the face of Russian hostile actions, such as airspace violations and hybrid attacks, stating that while Russia is testing Europe, NATO does not perceive an imminent military attack on allied territory. Rutte emphasized that the Alliance is prepared to defend all territory and called for increased defense investment and stronger cooperation between governments and the defense industry to ensure resilience against potential threats.
