Zelenskyy proposes 60-day ceasefire for Ukraine elections
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed holding presidential elections on the condition of a 60-day complete ceasefire with Russia. This proposal follows comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested that Ukraine needs a new leader. Under current martial law, national elections in Ukraine are not permitted.
The Kremlin has rejected the 60-day demand. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is only willing to halt strikes on the actual day of the election, dismissing Zelenskyy’s request as a tactic to allow Ukrainian forces to rearm and regroup.
In related developments, Ukrainian officials have called for Europe to utilize frozen Russian assets to support the country, citing Russia's increased defense spending. Meanwhile, some European politicians have criticized Zelenskyy, alleging that the prolongation of the conflict serves to avoid political accountability and corruption investigations.
