Zelenskyy discusses potential peace negotiations and new tax revenue strategies
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin may seek to provide Donald Trump with a diplomatic victory regarding the Ukraine war ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. Zelenskyy noted that while Putin intends to weaken Ukraine during the winter, he likely wants to avoid provoking Trump.
Zelenskyy met with Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who conveyed messages regarding Russia's readiness to negotiate. Discussions are reportedly exploring ways to reduce tensions over energy infrastructure, grain transport, and oil and gas exports to facilitate a potential peace agreement. While the Kremlin has not ruled out trilateral negotiations between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine, Zelenskyy remains cautious due to recent escalations in Russian attacks.
Separately, the Ukrainian parliament is considering legislation to legalize the online adult content industry to boost tax revenue. Proponents suggest that legalizing the sector could generate up to $25 million annually, which could fund the purchase of approximately 30,000 drones to support the war effort.
