Zelenskyy proposes Putin meeting at G20 summit in Miami
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed readiness to hold a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit, scheduled for December 14-15, 2026, in Miami, Florida. Zelenskyy emphasized that any such encounter must prioritize concrete results and decision-making over mere rhetoric, noting that Ukraine currently holds a stronger negotiating position than in the previous year.
The Kremlin has rejected the proposal, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov describing a bilateral meeting in the United States as “impossible.” Moscow maintains that any potential discussions between the two leaders must take place in Russia. While Putin's attendance at the Miami summit has not yet been confirmed, the Kremlin has indicated a willingness to host Zelenskyy in Moscow instead.
This diplomatic tension occurs amid ongoing mediation efforts by the United States. American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have recently engaged in shuttle diplomacy, visiting both Moscow and Kyiv to facilitate direct negotiations.
