Zelenskyy discusses peace efforts with US envoys Witkoff and Kushner

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a detailed and constructive telephone call with US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss peace negotiations aimed at ending the conflict with Russia. Zelenskyy reported that negotiating teams from both nations are currently working to finalize dates for a visit by the US representatives to Ukraine, a move he described as extremely beneficial for finding peace solutions.

During the discussion, Zelenskyy briefed the envoys on the current battlefield situation, noting that Russian military progress has been limited and achieved at the cost of significant Russian losses. He also addressed recent Russian air strikes.

Separate reports indicate that Kyiv may view CIA Director John Ratcliffe as a more neutral mediator than Kushner and Witkoff. Ratcliffe recently made an unannounced visit to Moscow, where he reportedly proposed a meeting between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Vladimir Putin to facilitate peace efforts. Meanwhile, at a G20 meeting in the US, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss economic matters, though Bessent noted that certain discussions could only proceed after the war concludes.
