Zelensky imposes sanctions on former press secretary Yulia Mendel
President Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed ten-year sanctions on ten Russian and Ukrainian individuals, including his former press secretary Yulia Mendel, who served from 2019 to 2021. The decree accuses these individuals of spreading Russian propaganda and disinformation to support Moscow’s aggressive policies against Ukraine.
The sanctions include asset freezes and restrictions on commercial transactions. Mendel has challenged the legality of the move via Facebook, labeling the sanctions against Ukrainian citizens as “unconstitutional” and claiming they are used to silence those advocating for peace.
In a separate domestic development, Zelensky dismissed Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko following an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The investigation alleged that the Prosecutor General’s office provided cover for call centers involved in multi-million dollar fraud schemes in exchange for bribes.
Additionally, Zelensky addressed potential de-escalation regarding strikes on infrastructure. He stated that Ukraine is prepared to halt attacks on Russian targets if international partners can guarantee that Moscow will cease targeting Ukrainian energy networks, ports, and food and medicine supply chains.
