Zelenskyy meets U.S. Senate to advocate for Russia sanctions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to discuss Ukraine’s strategy in the ongoing war against Russia. During the meeting, Zelenskyy requested U.S. assistance regarding Patriot interceptor missiles, licensing agreements, and expanded access to Starlink internet services.
A primary focus of the discussions was the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act, a legislative package designed to deprive Russia of oil and gas revenue. The Senate advanced the bill with an 86-11 vote, sending it to the House of Representatives. This represents one of the most significant legislative efforts to support Ukraine since 2024.
While the Senate has passed the sanctions package, the next steps in the legislative process remain uncertain as the bill moves toward the House.
