Zelenskyy orders investigation into ammunition storage after Kyiv Oblast explosions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered an investigation into the storage of ammunition near residential areas following a major explosion in the village of Myla, Kyiv Oblast. The incident occurred after a Russian strike targeted a warehouse belonging to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, which contained shells, mines, other munitions, and drones.

Zelenskyy described the situation as a “terrible situation and terrible negligence” by those responsible for storing explosives in close proximity to civilians. He noted that such storage violates established norms and emphasized that the incident is “absolutely unacceptable.”

According to Ukrainian authorities, the explosion resulted in at least 27 deaths and 42 injuries, leading to the evacuation of over 370 people. The Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Security Service of Ukraine are involved in the investigation to determine who authorized the placement of the munitions near residential buildings.

Separately, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the strike targeted components and starter accelerators for long-range drones. Other reported Russian strikes in the region included a port terminal in Mykolaiv and a logistics center in Kalynivka.
