Zelenskyy urges UN to target Russia's war revenues

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on global leaders to choke Russia’s war revenues to end the conflict. He argued that Vladimir Putin is the primary obstacle to peace and that Russian trade income directly enables the continuation and brutality of the war.

Zelenskyy emphasized that targeting Russia’s financial capacity and production is essential to stopping the aggression, stating that when Russia receives money through trade, it rejects diplomacy. His remarks came as Russian drone strikes targeted Kyiv.

Separately, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the assembly. Rubio noted that both Kyiv and Moscow have expressed interest in a limited ceasefire aimed at protecting grain shipments and energy sectors. While Rubio indicated that the U.S. is willing to assist in such an agreement, he acknowledged that reaching even a partial deal would be difficult.
