Zelenskyy visits frontline troops near Lyman in eastern Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited military command posts near the Lyman sector in eastern Ukraine to meet with soldiers and present them with state awards. The visit occurred amidst an ongoing Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian forces in the region.

During the visit, Zelenskyy was accompanied by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, Army General Mykhailo Drabatskyi, and Andriy Biletsky, who commands Ukrainian forces in the Lyman area. The discussions included coordination with various military units and decisions regarding defense procurement, specifically focusing on the acquisition of pickup trucks and strengthening unmanned systems.

The military operation, referred to as ‘Operation Vibaldy’, aims to limit a Russian salient approximately 15 km wide located north of Lyman and about 30 km north of Sloviansk. While frontline progress has seen sporadic territorial gains for Kyiv, analysts note that combat in the region remains intense with heavy casualties on both sides.
