Zelenskyy warns 20 million Ukrainians could flee to Europe if Russia wins

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a stark warning to European leaders, stating that as many as 20 million Ukrainians could be forced to flee to Europe if Russia achieves a victory in the ongoing war. Speaking during meetings in Brussels, Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia's intent to destroy national infrastructure and territory would drive a massive displacement of the population, potentially triggering the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.

Currently, approximately four million Ukrainians are living in the European Union under temporary protection status. Zelenskyy argued that defending Ukraine's sovereignty is essential to maintaining social and political stability across the European continent. He noted that the systematic targeting of energy grids and other critical infrastructure by Russian forces is a primary factor in this potential exodus.

In response to the escalating conflict, European leaders have discussed continued support. Antonio Costa and other officials have addressed the need for new aid packages focusing on energy resilience and air defense. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Ukraine is facing critical shortages of interceptor missiles, such as the Patriot system, which has impacted the effectiveness of defenses against recent ballistic missile strikes.
