Ukraine accepts U.S. proposal for trilateral talks with Russia in October

President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that Ukraine is prepared to participate in a new round of trilateral technical-level peace talks proposed by the United States. The initiative, aimed at reviving diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict, seeks to bring representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. to the negotiating table by the end of October 2026.

Zelensky indicated that Ukraine is open to hosting these discussions in the United Arab Emirates or other locations suggested by Washington. While the talks are intended to be at a technical level rather than a direct summit between heads of state, they represent a significant diplomatic push by the U.S. administration following recent visits by envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to both Kyiv and Moscow.

The Kremlin has not yet formally accepted the proposal, though spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that three-way discussions in October are a possibility. These diplomatic efforts occur against a backdrop of continued military escalation, with Russia maintaining strikes on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and energy systems. Zelensky has emphasized that any potential agreement must not compromise Ukraine's national interests or sovereignty.
