Zeljko Obradovic poised to return as Panathinaikos head coach
Serbian coach Zeljko Obradovic arrived in Athens on 19 June for final negotiations with Greek club Panathinaikos. The talks, scheduled for the weekend, aim to finalize a three‑year contract reported to be worth €10.5 million, which would make Obradovic one of the highest‑paid coaches in European basketball.
Panathinaikos intends to replace outgoing coach Ergin Ataman, with club officials including president Demetris Giannakopoulos meeting the coach to discuss roster and staff plans. Sources indicate the club is ready to offer a substantial financial package, potentially exceeding €2 million per year in net salary, and is seeking a comprehensive technical staff to accompany Obradovic. If the deal is confirmed, an official announcement is expected early next week.
