Zendaya to campaign for Best Actress Oscar for Dune: Part Three
Zendaya is reportedly launching an Oscar campaign for the Best Actress category for her role as Chani in “Dune: Part Three,” the final installment of Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction trilogy. This marks a significant shift from the first two films, where her performance was positioned in the supporting actress category.
The decision to pursue a lead role reflects Chani’s expanded importance in the narrative. Set nearly two decades after Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) seized control of the Imperium, the film follows a ruthless emperor facing the consequences of his reign. Chani is central to the unfolding mystery and conspiracies surrounding his rule.
This potential nomination comes during a highly successful year for the 30-year-old actress. In addition to her work on the Dune franchise, she has starred in high-grossing films such as “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” as well as the romantic dark comedy “The Drama.” While Zendaya has previously won two Emmys and a Golden Globe, an Academy Award nomination would be her first.
Warner Bros. is scheduled to release “Dune: Part Three” in theaters and IMAX on December 18, 2026. The film features a large ensemble cast, including Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Robert Pattinson.
