ZenDiS shifts OpenDesk distribution to partners following high demand

The Center for Digital Sovereignty (ZenDiS) is restructuring the distribution of OpenDesk, an open-source office software suite, due to demand exceeding its internal capacity. After selling licenses for 200,000 workstations, the organization reported that personnel resources were insufficient to handle the volume of incoming requests through its direct sales model in Bochum.

To address this bottleneck, ZenDiS is transitioning from direct sales to a partner network model. External service providers will now manage marketing, implementation, and maintenance. Current partners include B1 Systems, Dachs IT, and Schwarz Digits, with companies such as Deutsche Telekom, Ionos, and Bechtle expected to join. Interested service providers can apply for the program until January 31, 2027.

The surge in interest is partly attributed to geopolitical factors. Following US sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the court reportedly transitioned to OpenDesk in late 2025 after being unable to use Microsoft Office.
