Zeng Qinghong allegedly manipulated 2007 CCP succession
Reports detail the internal political maneuvering within the Chinese Communist Party leading up to the 17th National Congress in 2007. It is alleged that Zeng Qinghong, acting as a key strategist for the Jiang Zemin faction, orchestrated a plan to influence the succession process.
According to these accounts, Zeng utilized his positions to organize a “democratic recommendation” vote among high-ranking officials. This process was reportedly used to suppress the candidacy of Li Keqiang, a key figure of the Youth League faction supported by Hu Jintao, in favor of Xi Jinping, who was viewed at the time as a candidate without a strong independent faction.
The maneuvering allegedly culminated in a political compromise during the Beidaihe meetings, where Xi Jinping was established as the primary successor. While intended to preserve the influence of the Jiang faction, the transition ultimately resulted in the subsequent consolidation of power by Xi Jinping, which led to the dismantling of the Jiang faction's political influence.
