Zengezur Corridor discussed as potential logistics hub in Erzurum

The 30th Sultan Sekisi Meeting was held in Erzurum to discuss the economic, strategic, and geopolitical implications of the Zengezur Corridor. Organized by the Erzurum Development Foundation (ER-VAK), the East Anatolia Exporters Association (DAİB), the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association, and the East Anatolia Journalists Association (DAGC), the event focused on how the corridor can strengthen transport and trade links between the Turkic world and Anatolia.

Participants discussed the potential for Erzurum to become a major logistics hub. Erdal Güzel, President of ER-VAK, emphasized the need to identify ways to maximize the economic benefits of the corridor, which is also referred to as the ‘Turan Road’ or ‘Turan Corridor’.

Abdulkerim Kavaz, the Erzurum representative for the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association, noted that marketing local production remains a primary challenge. He suggested that improved access to markets in Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia, potentially through zero-customs agreements, could stimulate economic growth and prevent migration from the region. Ömer Madırlı, President of DAİB, characterized the corridor as a revival of a historical narrative that will bring significant economic movement to the area.
