Zenia Stampe announces initiatives to protect the Danish language

Danish Culture Minister Zenia Stampe has announced three new initiatives aimed at protecting the Danish language from the increasing influence of English in education, workplaces, and culture.

One key proposal involves expanding the mandate of the Danish Language Council (Dansk Sprognævn) to take a more proactive and advisory role. The council would be tasked with contacting central language users, institutions, and authorities to provide guidance and encourage the correct use of Danish while discouraging unnecessary English usage.

Additionally, the Minister suggested that public service obligations could be strengthened regarding language use, though this would require further negotiations regarding media agreements.
