Zenica City Council approves heating price increases

The Zenica City Council has approved the heating season organization program and a new pricing structure for the 2026/2027 heating season. Under the decision, heating costs for individuals will increase by 35 percent through the end of the year. The city will subsidize the remaining 71 percent of the planned 106 percent increase for individuals via the municipal budget, with authorization granted to initiate credit borrowing to sustain these subsidies throughout the heating season.

Economic entities will face a 106 percent increase, raising the cost from 4.8 KM plus VAT to 9.89 KM plus VAT per square meter. Following a proposal by councilman Ernad Bešlagić, citizens have been granted a 15-day window to request disconnection from the heating network if they do not wish to pay the new rates.

Approximately 100 citizens held a peaceful protest in front of the City Administration building during the session, demanding that heating services be made available.
