Zenica City Council leadership resigns

Snježana Vrhovac, the Chairperson of the Zenica City Council, and her deputy, Mirza Husetić, have resigned from their positions. The resignations were officially confirmed in a document from the Zenica City Council Election and Appointment Commission dated October 23, 2026.

The leadership vacuum follows several days of tension within the Council, including disputes over central heating price increases and disagreements regarding the conduct of emergency sessions. Mirza Husetić previously cited moral reasons for his resignation during an emergency session, stating he could no longer maintain order during meetings, though he remains a council member.

The Election and Appointment Commission has initiated the process to select new leadership. Political entities represented in the Council have been invited to submit proposals for a new Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson by October 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM.
