Zenica Court Halts Nova Željezara Bankruptcy Process

On 29 June 2026 the Municipal Court in Zenica issued a temporary measure that postpones the decision on opening bankruptcy proceedings against Nova Željezara Zenica. The court said the move is needed to consider the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina government’s proposal to place the company under extraordinary administration. Judge Dino Aličić ordered a halt to any actions that could render the extraordinary‑administration procedure irrelevant and barred temporary trustee Jasmin Hadžirašidović from selling, transferring or otherwise disposing of the firm’s assets.

The measure takes effect immediately and can remain in force for up to 30 days. The court also instructed the registration court to record the proposal for extraordinary administration. Nova Željezara Zenica has been declared a company of systemic importance for the Federation because of its impact on employment, the metal industry, supply chains and the railway and energy sectors. The court warned that an outright bankruptcy could terminate labor contracts, halt production and cause a permanent loss of skilled staff, jeopardising any future financial or operational restructuring.
