Zenica-Doboj miners face health insurance expiration

The Health Insurance Institute of Zenica-Doboj Canton has warned that a temporary measure allowing miners and their families to access healthcare services is set to expire on September 6, 2026.

This warning stems from unresolved debts regarding health insurance contributions, which have reached approximately 175 million KM. Although an initial request for a 20 million KM payment was made to settle part of the obligations, the funds have not been paid, and the Institute has received no response to its initiatives sent to the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Institute has called upon the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the mining companies, and Elektroprivreda BiH to establish clear obligations, deadlines, and methods for settling the debt before the deadline. The Institute emphasized that it cannot assume financial responsibilities belonging to the mines or the government, noting its duty to maintain financial stability for approximately 350,000 insured persons in the canton.
