Zenica miners to receive debt payments following administrative finalization

Vedran Lakić, the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry, announced that administrative procedures are nearing completion to facilitate the payment of outstanding debts to miners at the Zenica Lignite Mine.

The funds are being provided through a World Bank project titled ‘Just Transition in Selected Coal-Rich Regions in Bosnia and Herzegovina,’ which is valued at over 150 million KM. This initiative aims to mitigate the social and economic impacts of the gradual closure of coal mines and the transition to renewable energy sources.

According to Lakić, the Federal Ministry of Finance has completed its portion of the process, and state-level procedures are expected to conclude shortly. Once the designated account is opened to receive the World Bank funds, the ministry will be able to settle all debts owed to the Zenica miners and proceed with worker displacement and reintegration programs.
