Zenica to terminate resort sale and sue Croatia

The City of Zenica has announced plans to terminate a preliminary agreement to sell the Duće resort near Omiš, Croatia, and intends to launch an international legal action against the Republic of Croatia.

The sale involved a 10,935-square-meter complex, including bungalows and sports infrastructure, which was slated to be sold to the Croatian company Andro Internacional for approximately 5.245 million euros. While a 10 percent deposit was paid in August 2024, the final contract was never signed due to administrative restrictions imposed by Croatia that prevent the disposal of the property.

Zenica Mayor Fuad Kasumović stated that the city will return the advance payment to the buyer and terminate the agreement because the deadline has expired. Kasumović characterized the situation as “legal violence” by the Republic of Croatia against the property of Bosnia and Herzegovina, alleging that the Croatian Ministry of Justice is withholding necessary consent based on the absence of a specific agreement between the two nations. The city plans to hire an international law firm to sue Croatia in Strasbourg to seek damages.
