Bosnia-Herzegovina forest and landfill fires trigger criminal investigations
A forest fire that reignited in the Humilišani settlement near Mostar continued to burn overnight, prompting the deployment of two Air Tractors and causing significant material damage, including the total loss of a structure in the nearby Modrič hamlet. Firefighters from multiple municipalities in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton fought the blaze throughout the day and later contained the renewed flames.
Separately, two separate fires broke out at the Uborak waste‑deposition site near Mostar at the end of June. The proximity of the blaze to a fuel tank forced the evacuation of nearby residents. The cantonal prosecutor's office opened a criminal case, seizing video evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the cause and assess health, environmental and property impacts.
