Flamengo advances on Luiz Henrique transfer from Zenit
Brazilian club Flamengo is in advanced talks with Russian side Zenit to sign 25‑year‑old striker Luiz Henrique. The Brazilian side has tabled a proposal of €30 million in fixed fees plus €5 million in performance bonuses, potentially reaching €35 million (about R$200 million). Flamengo seeks to spread the payment over several years, while Zenit insists on receiving the sum up front, creating a key impasse.
The club’s budget is tight after the recent €45 million purchase of Lucas Paquetá, leaving roughly €15 million available for new signings. To lower the outlay, Flamengo has considered including players such as Wallace Yan in the deal. The deadline for registering new players for the Libertadores knockout stage adds urgency to the negotiations.
Club director José Boto and teammates, including Lucas Paquetá, have expressed optimism. Paquetá said, “I admire him, a great athlete… the club should do what it has to do. He would be very welcome.” No official contract has been signed yet, and talks continue.
