Zentralbahn receives first new FINK train for testing

Zentralbahn has received the first of ten new FINK-generation trains, manufactured by Stadler in Bussnang. The first vehicle, FINK 1, was transported to Meiringen on the night of August 12–13, 2026, and is currently undergoing comprehensive type testing.

Over the coming months, the vehicle will be tested under real operating conditions to evaluate driving behavior, braking performance, gear and adhesion drive functions, vehicle control, and train protection systems. Upon successful completion of these tests, the FINK series will receive final authorization for regular service.

Scheduled for introduction during the timetable change on December 13, 2026, FINK 1 will primarily serve the Luzern–Engelberg route, which is moving to a half-hourly service. The remaining nine FINK trains will be commissioned gradually in the following weeks. Each train features 128 seats, including 111 in second class and 17 in first class.
