Zero D.C. biblical epic to premiere in December

The biblical epic Zero D.C., directed by Alejandro Monteverde, is scheduled to premiere in Brazilian cinemas on December 3. Based on the Gospel of Matthew, the film offers a dramatic and human perspective on the events surrounding the birth of Jesus.

The narrative focuses on the tension of the Massacre of the Innocents, where King Herod orders the death of newborn boys to thwart a prophecy. The story follows Mary, played by Deva Cassel, and Joseph, played by Jamie Ward, as they attempt to protect the infant Jesus amidst political instability and persecution.

The production also introduces Joaquim, Mary’s father, portrayed by Gael García Bernal, to explore the family connections preceding the Holy Family. The film aims to move away from traditional iconography to highlight the emotional depth, moral conflicts, and the survival struggle of the central characters.
