ZET celebrates 116 years of electric trams in Zagreb

The Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) is celebrating the 116th anniversary of electric-powered tram operations in the city. To mark the occasion, ZET is offering citizens and visitors free rides on a special museum line this Tuesday afternoon.

The commemorative museum line, number 21, will feature the legendary M24 tram. It is scheduled to operate from 17:00 to 23:14, following a semi-circular route through Ljubljanica, Savska Street, Ban Jelačić Square, Trg hrvatskih velikana, Trg žrtava fašizma, the Main Station, Vodnikova, and back to Ljubljanica.

Electric trams began operating in Zagreb in 1910, marking a new era for urban public transport. Originally utilizing a one-meter gauge track, the fleet initially consisted of 28 motors from the Ganz & Co. factory in Budapest. While the trams were originally yellow, the city's iconic blue color was adopted in 1923.
