ZetaChain to shut down Layer 1 and migrate ZETA token to Solana
ZetaChain token holders have overwhelmingly approved Proposal 68, a strategic decision to shut down the project’s independent Layer 1 blockchain and migrate the native ZETA token to the Solana network.
The vote saw 99.4% support with 58% participation, exceeding the required 40% quorum. Under the approved plan, ZETA will be converted into a Solana Program Library (SPL) token at a 1:1 ratio, maintaining its original ticker and total supply. A technical change will reduce the token's decimal precision from 18 to 9. This migration does not include ZETA tokens currently held on the Ethereum or BNB Chain networks.
The pivot is driven by a shift in focus toward Anuma, ZetaChain’s private artificial intelligence application. Anuma, which reportedly has over 300,000 users and has processed over 1 million requests across 35 AI models, will also move to Solana to leverage its high-speed infrastructure and growing AI ecosystem. The team noted that maintaining a standalone Cosmos SDK-based chain presented significant operational burdens regarding security patches and validator coordination.
The approval of Proposal 68 does not trigger an immediate shutdown. A second governance proposal will be introduced to finalize the technical details, including the snapshot block height, the specific migration timeline, the asset withdrawal window, and coordination with centralized exchanges for the token swap.
