Zetaquirá council members charged over election irregularities

The Procuraduría General de la Nación has filed charges against nine council members in the municipality of Zetaquirá, Boyacá, for alleged omissions during the merit-based selection process for the municipal personero for the 2024-2027 term.

The investigation centers on a merit competition conducted under an inter-administrative agreement with the Universidad Popular del Cesar. The university itself had warned that it had neither signed nor authorized the agreement. Additionally, the Provincial Procuraduría of Tunja had formally alerted the Council to these irregularities, with warnings reiterated as late as January 2, 2024.

Despite these warnings, the Council proceeded with the process and elected Rossy Lorena Cucaita Soler as personero on January 10, 2024. The Provincial Procuraduría of Instruction of Tunja has provisionally classified the failure to correct these irregularities as a serious offense, categorized as either grave or extremely grave fault.
