Zeytinburnu parking dispute trial begins after fatal shooting

The first hearing has commenced in the trial of a father and son accused of intentional homicide following a fatal parking dispute in the Zeytinburnu district of Istanbul. The incident, which occurred in the Beştelsiz neighborhood, resulted in the death of Sedat Arıkan and injuries to his brother, Sinan Arıkan.

During the proceedings at the Bakırköy 16th High Criminal Court, defendant Nadir Kurt claimed he acted in self-defense. Kurt testified that the dispute stemmed from ongoing tensions regarding shop rentals and previous verbal confrontations. He stated that he fired four shots because he feared the victims were coming to kill him, asserting that a ricochet caused the fatal wound to Sedat Arıkan rather than a direct shot.

The court has ordered that the defendants, Nadir Kurt and his son İbrahim Kurt, remain in custody as the legal process continues.
