Zezé Di Camargo and sósia Zezé Miros spark legal debate over image rights in Brazil

Brazilian singer Zezé Di Camargo publicly criticized his look‑alike Zezé Miros, calling the sósia “ridiculous” after a video showed Miros in a nursing home where elderly residents mistook him for the star. The singer blocked the imitator on social media and defended his right to protect his image. Legal experts explained that while impersonation as a tribute is protected under Brazil’s Constitution, using a likeness to deceive for personal gain can constitute civil or criminal offenses such as fraud (estelionato) or false identity. Attorneys Marcelo Robalinho and Kevin de Sousa said the key factor is intent to obtain illicit advantage, and that transparent presentation as a cover remains lawful.
