Zhang Mutong leaves university to pursue self-taught music

Zhang Mutong, the 19-year-old son of actors Zhang Zhimin and Yuen Wing-yee, has reportedly decided to withdraw from the University of the Arts London after completing only one year of study in Digital Media Arts. According to social media posts by Chen Lan, also known as Xiang Tai, the decision was made so that Mutong could focus on self-studying music.

Reports indicate that while Yuen Wing-yee initially hoped her son would complete his university degree to build a foundation for his future, Zhang Zhimin supported the decision, believing that practical experience is as valuable as academic study. The couple eventually reached a consensus to respect their son's choice.

Mutong has already demonstrated musical talent, recently performing as a guitarist during his father's concert tour. He previously gained experience as an intern with the music team at Hunan Satellite TV. Chen Lan remarked that raising children is like “opening a blind box,” noting that parents cannot fully control their children's future paths.
