Zhang Xue breaks Guinness World Record for modified motorcycle water distance
Zhang Xue, founder of Zhang Xue Motorcycles, has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by a modified motorcycle on open water. Driving a modified MX450, Zhang covered 40.74 kilometers in his hometown of Mayang County, Hunan Province, surpassing the previous record of approximately 31.9 kilometers held by an Australian rider.
The achievement follows a 17-year journey for Zhang, who previously attempted the challenge four times in 2009 without success. To achieve the record, his technical team, led by Deng Liansong, extensively modified the MX450 with steel structure paddleboards welded to the front and rear wheels, enlarged paddles for increased propulsion, and a self-developed single-cylinder engine designed for stability and waterproofing.
Following the record, Zhang announced ambitious professional goals, including aiming for the WSBK annual championship next year and targeting top finishes in the Dakar Rally and MXGP. He has also been appointed as a cultural tourism promotion ambassador for Huaihua City.
