Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance, has become Asia’s richest person, surpassing Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Zhang’s net worth is estimated at approximately $105.5 billion, an eightfold increase from his $13 billion valuation in 2019.

His rise is largely attributed to ByteDance’s strategic pivot toward artificial intelligence. By leveraging massive datasets from platforms like TikTok and its Chinese counterpart Douyin, the company has developed advanced AI capabilities, including the Doubao AI chatbot and the Seedance video generator. This focus on AI has helped the company navigate geopolitical challenges, including regulatory pressures in the United States.

Zhang holds an estimated 21 percent stake in ByteDance. Recent valuations from investment firms BlackRock and Fidelity contributed to a $12 billion increase in his wealth within a single month.
