China expels top generals Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from Communist Party

China has expelled two high-ranking military officers, Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli, from the Communist Party following an anti-corruption investigation. Zhang, a former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, was one of the country’s highest-ranking generals.

According to official reports from Xinhua, the investigation found that both men committed serious violations of political, organizational, and integrity disciplines. Specific allegations include accepting “exceptionally large sums of money,” using their positions to facilitate promotions for others, and forming political cliques. The authorities also cited failures in supervising family members and subordinates.

In addition to being expelled from the Party, both men have been stripped of their military status and their positions as delegates to the 20th CPC National Congress. Their cases are being transferred to military prosecutors for potential criminal prosecution. The decision follows months of investigation into suspected violations of discipline and law.
