Zhang Youxia removed from Central Military Commission

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has officially removed Zhang Youxia from his position as Vice Chairman of the State Central Military Commission and stripped Liu Zhenli of his membership in the commission. Both individuals have also been removed from their roles as deputies to the National People's Congress.

This move follows reports from January that both men were under investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law. The removal of Zhang, a long-time close associate of Xi Jinping, significantly alters the composition of the military leadership. Following these dismissals, the State Central Military Commission is reported to have only two remaining members: Xi Jinping and Zhang Shengmin.

Insiders indicate that the decision has caused significant unrest within the military. While active-duty officers are reportedly feeling a sense of helplessness and frustration, retired generals have expressed much stronger dissatisfaction with the leadership changes.
