Zhang Ziyu draws global attention at Women's Basketball World Cup

Zhang Ziyu, a 19-year-old Chinese basketball player standing between 2.23 and 2.26 meters tall, has become a major talking point at the Women's Basketball World Cup in Berlin. Despite China's 94-61 loss to the United States in their opening match, Zhang's physical presence and performance drew significant attention.

During the game against the USA, Zhang recorded 13 points, six rebounds, and two blocks in approximately 18 minutes of play. Her impact was noted by international players and coaches; WNBA star Caitlin Clark remarked that she had never played against a woman of such size, while US coach Kara Lawson noted the difficulty of stopping her near the basket.

Zhang, the daughter of former professional basketball players, previously demonstrated her potential in a friendly against Spain, where she scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Her rapid growth and unique physical profile have led to comparisons with Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming.
