Zhangjiajie National Forest Park features sandstone pillars and subtropical forests
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, located in the Wulingyuan District of Hunan Province, serves as the core of the Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Established in 1982 as China’s first national forest park, the area is characterized by high, slender sandstone pillars that rise from a dense subtropical forest landscape consisting of valleys, canyons, and plateaus.
The park encompasses several distinct areas, including Tianzi Mountain, Golden Whip Stream, Huangshi Village, Yangjiajie, Yaozi Village, and Yuanjiajie. The terrain features a mix of high-altitude plateau paths and valley routes along waterways. To accommodate visitors across the steep and varied elevation, the park utilizes a combination of traditional hiking trails and technical infrastructure, such as cable cars and cliffside elevators.
