Zhao Jiaju wins Tor des Gèants ultra-trail race
Zhao Jiaju, an athlete from China's Guizhou province, has become the first Asian runner to win the Tor des Gèants ultra-trail race. He completed the 336.1-kilometer course in 65 hours, 55 minutes, and 22 seconds, breaking the previous race record by 13 minutes.
The race, held in the Italian Alps, involves over 24,000 meters of cumulative elevation gain and passes through major peaks such as Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa. To achieve his victory, Zhao utilized a fragmented sleep strategy, totaling only about one hour of sleep throughout the entire competition.
Athletes in the event must navigate extreme weather, including wind, rain, and drastic temperature shifts, within a 150-hour time limit.
