Zhao Xintong to become world number one at Wuhan Open

Zhao Xintong is set to become the 13th world number one in snooker history following his performance at the Wuhan Open. Zhao secured his ascent by defeating Neil Robertson 5-1, a victory that guarantees his rise to the top of the rankings after previously being unranked 16 months ago.

The tournament will culminate in a final between Zhao Xintong and Chang Bingyu. Chang reached the final after defeating current world number one Judd Trump 5-1, ensuring Trump’s reign will end following the conclusion of the event.

Both Zhao and Chang have seen significant career recoveries following a past betting and match-fixing scandal in which they were cleared of the most serious charges. Zhao, a former World Champion, is seeking his seventh career ranking title, while Chang is competing for his first professional title and a place in the top 32.
